Katherine is a light seeker.

Katherine Phipps (b. 1993) is an artist, photographer, yoga teacher, and content creator who established her career in New York, New York and now resides in Nashville, Tennessee.  A passionate, sensitive storyteller,  her work has a delicate narrative style focused on moments that are both ethereal and ephemeral.

Since 2009, Katherine has made photographs of herself and the world around her which express humanity in all of its forms: love, life, families, pain, joy, darkness, and light. With the rich traditions of philosophy, mythology, and astrology as her guides, her photographs on film are a song of the soul. She hopes her pictures might teach the viewer something about the Self, move them towards meditation, or begin to awaken their heart’s compassion.

Katherine was devoted to photography early on, and achieved national honors for her photographic work through the Scholastic National Art Awards. She graduated from Pratt Institute in 2015 with a BFA in Fine Art Photography. After Pratt, Katherine worked for quirky camera makers Lomography, where she was Marketing/PR Manager for several years, among her accomplishments a 2017 feature on the Today Show about the importance of analog in an increasingly digital world. She works professionally as a lifestyle, product, and wedding photographer.

Katherine started to practice Jivamukti Yoga in 2013 and since then the spiritual magic and athletic asana practices of the lineage have captured her heart. In her classes, she offers authentic and playful insight on how to take the practices we learn on our mats into the real world, moment to moment. You never know when life will ask you to stand on your head or one foot or do a big backbend but we can surely learn to breathe in those circumstances. She also hopes you might laugh in class, as one of the most valuable things a teacher ever said to her in class was, “Relax, it’s only Yoga!" Katherine considered the world famous Jivamukti Yoga School NYC her second home until it closed in 2019. She now works fully time as dedicated guide for students in their Journey to Jivamukti Teacher Trainings, website manager, and is grateful to apply her vision to impacting the world in partnership with Jivamukti Yoga on a global scale.

All photography on this site unless otherwise noted is mine.

I am always searching for what is latent: the undeveloped, the yet to come, what lies within. The light reflected beneath the surface, behind the veil.
